Among the Rushes - Out Now

Introducing the second single from Land of Eden - Among the Rushes

It seems appropriate to release this one during the beautiful spring days that many of us have been enjoying! I actually started out writing this melody on the piano which is not my usual composition process. I hit record, jammed some chords and hummed some phrases that were floating around my head. It was about a year ago that I wrote this one so the process is a little blurry for me now but I seem to remember spending a while trying to transcribe what I had recorded while trying to figure out the structure for the piece that felt most settled.

I was actually a little unsure about bringing this one to the rehearsal space with Christoffer and Dennis as I didn’t know if it was too vague in terms of structure and piece development. But actually I really love the way it has turned out and the organic movement of the piece in general.

Among the Rushes is intended as more of a reflective piece. When I was in the writing process, I was imagining looking through plant life at a water’s edge towards the abundant life beyond. At the time, I was living quite close to a lovely park area with a few ponds. The nature felt a bit more natural in a way that it was wilder and less well kept and I had the privilege of enjoying this on my daily walks. The ponds were always filled with a large selection of bird species so it felt like my little daily haven. I guess this was the main inspiration for the piece.

I wanted to capture a moment of stillness and appreciation for nature. How vast, beautiful and intricate a world we live in. We only get a true sense of this when we take the time to slow down and really look around us. I would love to travel the world and see incredible nature spots that I only ever marvel at in pictures but the truth is I’m surrounded by the wonder of nature each and every day. There’s so much depth, texture, colour and sensations to experience right outside our front doors!
